Popular Game Just Became One of Pokémon's Biggest Competitor!

No Man's Gets a New Update!

No Man's Sky got a new update, and this one is going to trouble Pokémon! In this new update we can now collect pets, as always, and battle with them! This new update was a delightful surprise since we just got the new Remnant update. Just to think we just got Pokémon Champions the same day as we got this update! For now, let's dive into more of the Xeno Arena Update!

What Else is in This Update?

Pet Battles

Of course, the huge attraction for this update, the creature battles. These creature battles is kind of like Dejarik or Holochess from Star Wars but turn-base and the creatures you use are shrunken down to size. You can find these battles tables in planetary buildings and the Space Anomaly. On the Anomaly you can battle other travellers you meet! There are also new arena league medals you can earn through creature battles! You can also earn Nanites.

Affinities/Types

One new thing in this update is that all of the creatures got recoded to have attacks and affinities! You may be wondering' "What is an affinity in No Man's Sky?" An affinity is the creature's type, for example a creature could have the affinity fire. These affinities also have type weaknesses, or should I say affinity weaknesses! There are 8 different types of affinities! The attacks a creature can do also have their own affinities/types just like in Pokémon.

Regional Champions?

There are also System Champions, which sound very familiar. Maybe it's because at the time of writing this I just played Pokémon Champions. In each system there is a champion creature battler that you can battle. Okay this feature is straight out of Pokémon. The cool thing is that champions only use creatures that are in the system, so if you find a creature you want as a pet you can find them somewhere in the system!

A New Traveller

In addition to this update, we got the new traveller Iteration: Oceanus! This traveler loves creature battles and is very advance at them! He also offers daily special creature battles! You can find him in the Anomaly. If you impress him, he will give you special pets!

New Analysis Visor Mode and More Pet Storage

In your Analysis Visor there is a new mode that will tell you a creature's Potential battle traits and affinity! This should be a very useful feature, so you aren't wasting your time on finding a strong creature of one affinity and then end up getting a whole bunch of random weak creatures you don't want that are taking up your pet storage. Speaking of pet storage, you can now have up to 30 pets!  Creatures also have tier rankings just like spaceships!

Breeding and Genes

You can now feed your pets retroviral pellets to upgrade battle traits! You can also earn experience points to unlock genetic mutations, and these genetic mutations raise the stats of your creatures. For Pokémon fans, genetic mutations are EVs.

You can create a legacy of champion creatures by breeding them. You can change their personalities in the egg sequencer in the Anomaly. I know you were able to do this before the update, but now it is more important because the personality and physical traits effect their battle abilities. For example, a large creature will have better durability, but easier to hit.

What Does This Mean for Pokémon?

All I know is that Pokémon fans are going to start playing No Man's sky. One thing is that this update came the same day as Pokémon Champions. So, my question is was this intentional? Is Hello Games trying to rival Pokémon? Please tell me about your thoughts on this subject!

Just to think this update really makes this game up to par with Pokémon! Since No Man's Sky uses procedural generation there are over 10 million Creatures! So, the Pokémon Pokédex is a piece of dust compared to No Man's Sky's fauna! Don't forget that there is an uncountable number of systems and each system has a creature battle champion. That totally overwhelms the number of trainers in all the Pokémon games combined.

Pokémon games are still worth playing because the storyline for monster battle games will still be better on Pokémon. The creatures in Pokémon are more personal and more suitable for kids. Believe me some of those creatures in No Man's Sky can be child nightmare fuel! Plus, the creatures in No Man's Sky don't have mega evolutions or gigantimaxes. Sean don't get any ideas, or do I think a special gimmick in No Man's Sky would be interesting! One way No Man's Sky can never beat Pokémon is that at least one Pokémon will always hold a special place in our hearts!
